Most people publish content the obvious way: one article at a time, spaced out, steady pace. It feels logical. It is also one of the slowest ways to build topical authority. There is a better approach. We call it BURST publishing. The idea is simple: instead of publishing articles individually, you publish an entire content pillar in a single day — the pillar hub page plus every supporting article in that cluster. Here is why it works. --- When Google crawls a new site or a new section of an existing site, it is trying to answer one question: does this source actually know this topic, or is it one of thousands of thin sites that published a few pages on a subject and moved on? If you publish one article today and the next one in three days, Google indexes each page in isolation. It sees individual pieces of content, not a coherent structure. The topical signal is weak because the coverage is incomplete. When you publish a full pillar at once — say, a hub page plus 25 supporting articles covering every angle of a topic — Google crawls and indexes the entire cluster in context. It sees: - A hub that covers the topic at a high level - Supporting articles that go deep on specific subtopics - Internal links connecting every piece to the hub and to each other - Complete coverage with no obvious gaps That is the signal of a site that actually has authority on the subject. Not a site that is slowly building towards it. --- The data from our own case study supports this directly. We built a site using this exact method — 7 pillars, 175 articles, published in full clusters. By the time the last pillar went live, Google was indexing new pages within hours. Pillar 1 took days to index. Pillar 7 was picked up the same day. The pattern is consistent: each complete pillar you publish reinforces the ones before it. The internal graph becomes denser, the crawl becomes faster, and Google starts ranking you for queries you never explicitly targeted — because it understands the full shape of what you have built. Total result: 266 pages indexed, roughly 4,900 visits, zero backlinks, zero paid promotion. Structure did the work. --- How to execute BURST publishing: Step 0 — Generate your pillar hub page first. This is the 2,000+ word anchor that covers the topic broadly and links to every supporting article. Step 1 — Generate all supporting articles for that pillar. Each one should be 2,000+ words and focused on a specific subtopic or question within the cluster. Step 2 — Publish everything in one day. Hub page plus all articles, with internal links in place. One important note on internal links: if you are doing BURST publishing across multiple pillars, your articles will contain links to pillars that do not exist yet. Use a Smart Link component or placeholder links that resolve once the content is live — otherwise you are publishing broken internal links, which works against you. --- BURST publishing is not the only way to build topical authority. If you are working with a large existing site and adding content to it, the calculus is different. But for new sites or new topic areas, it consistently outperforms the drip approach.
